    Model AVDS-1790-2 diesel supercharged air-cooled engine and zárovň the first major representative of diesel engines, a number of -1790. Based of the prototypes AVDS-1790-P and AVDS-1790-1, which were used to verify the concept of the adjustment of ignition of the engine on the compression ignition, or as a power unit, prototypes of tanks number of M48 Patton (T48E2 and M48E1). Engines Teledyne AVDS-1790-2 were mostly used in combination with a transmission Allison CD-850.

    Version of the AVDS-1790-2 was first introduced in 1960 and immediately was involved in the tests and subsequently the serial production of the then new tank, M60. The engine had a capacity of 750 pcs and torque of 2.318 Nm.
    Already for two years, it was replaced by versions of the AVDS-1790-2A, where it was optimized combustion process and because of reduced fuel consumption and volume of exhaust gases (or smokiness).
    In 1975, in the framework of the program increase the reliability of the selected components, known as the RISE (Reliability-Improved-Selected-Equipment), developed a new version of the engine. The Program included several amendments relating to the original engine (for example, adjustments and enhancements to the cooling, fuel injection, air filters) and further amplification of the mechanically stressed parts (cylinder heads and compressors). Further, it was swapped the original 300 And the alternator for a newer and more powerful 650 And model. Newly engine was marked as a version of the AVDS-1790-2C.
    In the same year was also developed a version of the AVDS-1790-2D, which is the former differed only by the application of an older 300 And the alternator.
    For recovery vehicles the M88A1 have been manufactured version of the AVDS-1790-2DR, which is from the version of the AVDS-1790-2D to vary the output for the main winch (but i still was fully compatible with the vehicles of the series M60). The torque has been reduced to 1.841 Nm and has been used transmission XT-1410-4.
    On versions of the AVDS-1790-2A, AVDS-1790-2CA and AVDS-1790-2DA not aware of further details.
