SOV - D-9

бронеавтомобиль Д-9
Armoured vehicle D-9

Another of N.I. Dyrenkov's designs on chassis supplied from the USA in the early 1930s was the D-9 vehicle. It was a single prototype with an interestingly shaped hull, welded from 4-8 mm sheet metal, mounted on a 6x4 Modeland chassis, produced in the spring of 1931 at the Moscow Railway Repair Plant in Lublin.

The crew consisted of 4-5 men. The main armament (1x Hotchkiss 37 mm,1x DT 7,62 mm) was placed in a modified turret with a tank T-18, the vehicle was also equipped with 7 shells for the machine gun DT 7,62 mm (there were 3 pieces in the vehicle) and a shelf for the anti-aircraft machine gun Maxim vz. 1910 7,62 mm on the hull ceiling.

The chassis was generally overloaded, the vehicle weighed around 7 tons and movement even in lighter terrain was problematic for it. It was not recommended for DRRA armament. "As an example of a heavy armored vehicle, the D-9 was very cumbersome, clumsy, had reduced momentum and no significant combat advantages over medium armored vehicles..." states the final report.
