The Tatra T 18 armored coach was built in 1925 in Kopřivnice on the basis of a Polish request on the chassis of the Tatra T 14 ordinary coach (produced from 1924 to 1968). In 1926, Poland ordered 6 units of the T 18 (Nos. 5545 to 5550), which then served with a training railway battalion of armoured trains in the village of Jabłonna near Warsaw. In April 1927, Poland ordered another 9 chassis of the drezinas, for which they made the bodies at home in Poland (Centralny Warsztat Samochodowy - Central Automobile Workshop). For the Czechoslovak army, Tatra produced one T 18 drezina marked D 2001 on a trial basis, which served in Milovice until 1939. According to Polish sources, it ended its combat pilgrimage somewhere in Ukraine after the Germans seized it and included it in their armoured trains (Panzerzug 1?) in 1941. The Polish dreadnoughts were assigned to Panzerzugg trains No. 13 "Generał Sosnkowski" (4 pcs) and No. 15 "Death" (2 pcs) in September 1939. According to Polish sources, some of the Polish drays later served in German service in Panzerzug 1 and 7 trains.

The production of lorries for Poland was not without problems. During the sniper tests of the already almost finished drezinas, it was found that the armoured bodies made of 6-8 mm thick metal plates, which according to the calculations were supposed to withstand fire from infantry guns of 7.92 mm calibre (in the tests a machine gun firing single shots was used), were in most cases shot through. Therefore, mechanical and chemical analyses of the armour supplied were started immediately. As a result, the plates supplied by Vítkovice Zeleziarne did not meet the required parameters. Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the manufacturer, but he was unable to deliver the required material in the foreseeable future. There is a rumour, which is not confirmed, that Tatra turned to Škodovka in Plzeň, which immediately supplied the material in the required quality. There, the scaffolding had to be rebuilt repeatedly and had to undergo repeated tests. The tests took place at the beginning of spring 1926 on the Studénka-Štramberk-Veřovice line. Repeated firing tests with a machine gun of 7.92 mm calibre were successful. On 18.8.1926, after minor defects had been eliminated, the Tatra Auto Warszawa company took over the six lorries. After the Polish Ministry of Military Affairs took over the drezinas, they were delivered to the unit in 11/1926.
