USAF oznámilo, že 24. února 2010 podalo žádost o nabídku (Request For Proposal, RFP) na nový tankovací letoun, jenž má nahradit spolehlivě sloužící, nicméně 45 let staré KC-135 Stratotanker. Žádost obsahuje 372 požadavků a 230 vesměs technických změn v reakci na připomínky k návrhu dokumentu vydaného v září 2009.
K programu akvizice nového tankovacího letounu se před pár dny vyjádřil i tajemník USAF. Podle něj lze uzavření kontraktu očekávat ještě během léta 2010.
