In the years 1931-1933, work on the development of an armored car took place in cooperation with several Australian institutions and companies. The culmination of efforts was the creation of a prototype of the version LP-1 ( Local Pattern), which underwent subsequent evolution in other versions LP-2, LP-3 and LP-4. The vehicle, which was completed at the Maribyrnong Ordnance Factory, Melbourne, Victoria at the end of 1934 bore the nickname "Corrobboree", later another "Ned Kelly" (according to a fighter against the colonial administration/bandit from the end of the 19th century). The platform of the vehicle consisted of a conventional truck Ford with 4x2 drive, which was powered by a 4-cylinder engine Ford with a power of 50 horsepower. The armor plates were supplied by the English company Hadfields of Sheffield. Testing of the machine took place in 1935, but the test results were unsatisfactory. The vehicle was heavy, with which its inefficient engine had problems. Other problems were the high center of gravity, noise and poor ventilation of the vehicle's combat area. When firing with a Vickers .303 cal machine gun mounted in a turret, the vehicle space was enormously filled with smoke and carbon monoxide. The vehicle was produced in only one prototype, the development successor was the LP-2 type. The prototype was assigned to training in the 1st Armored Car Regiment stationed in Horsham, Victoria, in which it served until its decommissioning in 1942.
