He was born on September 5, 1924 in Kunzendorf in the Czechoslovak Republic as the son of a businessman, he helped himself in the family business. 04.1942 drafted into the army. Baptism by fire as a shooter in 1./Inf.Rgt.51 in the 18th Infantry Division on the northern section of the Eastern Front. 07.1943 rearmed to a motorized grenadier regiment in the newly 18th Division of armored grenadiers did not participate in the fighting near Jelna, Orš and Bobrujsko. 03.1944 as a freelancer participated in heavy fighting in which his team in a lonely front post repulsed two Soviet companies that tried to surround them. After the death of his team leader, he took command and with only seven riots repulsed several attacks for two days, suffering injuries himself. On April 7, 1944, as one of the youngest Wehrmacht soldiers, he was awarded the Knight's Cross and then transferred to Gren.Ers.Btl. 51 in Liegnit. Langer promoted 1944/45 through Uffz. On Feldwebel and fought again with the 18th Armored Grenadier Division in East Prussia and Silesia. 05.1945 was briefly in US captivity. He died on May 24, 1993 in Marburg-Cappel in Lower Saxony.
