Lieutenant Colonel Oskar Valeš


Oskar Valeš, original name Wetzler, was born in 1912. In 1936 he entered the KSČ and participated as an interbrigadista went through the Spanish Civil War. He spent World War II in the Czechoslovak army in Great Britain. In it, he led an illegal party organization, for which he was interned and released from the army.


After the war, he was appointed regional secretary of the Communist Party in Ústí nad Labem. In October 1948 he joined Ministry of the Interior and in 1950, after a complete reorganization of the security authorities, moved to Ministry national security, where he commanded the 2nd sector or intelligence. However, in January 1951 he was arrested and in December 1953 during a trial with a group in Security, which followed the trial with Rudolf Slánský, sentenced to 21 years. However, as early as 1956, he was rehabilitated and re-admitted to the party. His rank was also restored and he was included in the active reserve, with retroactive effect.
