Land Rover Defender 130 Caiman (Armoured 4)


The vehicle is intended to perform combat and special tasks in the assembly of members of the parachute battalion. It is characterized by the ability to carry air and possibilities to fulfill the special tasks of the landing party on parachutes or from helicopters. Vehicles Caiman was developed and taken primarily for the security of combat tasks 43. airborne mechanized battalion of Chrudim.


The contract was declared 25. June 2008, and its object was the acquisition of 79 vehicles, with a final deadline of delivery to 31. may 2009. The vehicle should be delivered in the range of:
- two prototypes
- ten vehicles in a test series
- 67 vehicle serial execution


But then on the official sites there was apparently a period of mental gymnastics, and the whole contract was roughly at the end of August 2008 cancelled, so eventually it was proclaimed again by 3. September of the same year. According to the modified input now the army has demanded delivery:
- one prototype
- ten vehicles in a test series
- 68 pieces of serial execution


The final delivery date was adjusted to 30. November 2009. The purchase contract was signed on 19. December 2008, the financial costs for the purchase of all cars Jacare amounted to 391 420 036 Czk. Troop trials of the prototype vehicle were carried out in the days 23.3.2009 up to 20.4.2009. According to the schedule should be the first ten vehicles of the test series delivered 43. vmpr at the beginning of July 2009. The solemn transfer of the Caymans to the loadout 43. airborne mechanized battalion took place on Monday, 14. December 2009. Cars were delivered in the following numbers and weapons configurations:
- 43 pieces of weapons development for 2 guns PKB,
- 30 pieces of weapons development for the machine gun PKB and NSV;
- 6 pieces of weapons development for the machine gun PKB and grenade AGS-17


After less than a year (October 2010) since the official handover of the Caymans to the loadout 43. airborne mechanized battalion has each of the vehicles in average mileage of about 3000 km. The largest portion of the miles has to his credit the prototype, which has a "head start" of intensive military tests - a total of about 17000 km.


The vehicle is built on a modified chassis Land Rover Defender 130 with constant drive of all wheels. we can hold the airborne squad and with the material, which for the shorter SOVthat 43. vmpr "inherited it" after the "Six" definitely not the case. Spall protection of the vehicle in the front and the back bottom part corresponds to the level of STANAG 4569 Level 1. The chassis has a reinforced shock absorbing elements (springs, dampers), constant velocity joints, and fit the front and rear of the shoulders. Also the brakes BREMSO have compared to the standard land rover Defender 130 a higher efficiency. The wheels have a reinforced discs with dojezdovými inserts run-flat and are fitted with pneumatic tyres BF Goodrich 235/85 R16. To the frame of the vehicle are mounted two spare wheels, due to the lack of finance in the version without run-flat. Jacare is equipped with a shuttered mezinápravového differential and differential lock on the rear axle.


Winch built in the front part of the vehicle is of the type WARN XDC 12 V and has the pulling power to 42.2 kN. On the protective frame of the vehicle is fixed a wire cutter protecting all members of the crew. In the middle part of the frame is located a rotatable circular track with adapters to fit carts of weapons DŠKM, NSV, PKB and AGS-17.


Front split car glass is removable and may be replaced by a bulletproof. Side door compared to the standard car also have been changed and are removable. The front passenger has an available height-adjustable seat and swivel bracket, simple gears for machine gun PKB. The two rear seats are rotatable and longitudinally adjustable to 45°, behind them is located the emergency seat for the main gunner and the backseat for the last member of the squad.


To the rear of the device is a fixed storage basket that can be for better access to the car folded out to the side. On the frame of the vehicle and in its interior are spaced holders of personal weapons, boxes of ammunition and mounts for RPG-75 and launch rockets Carl-Gustav M3. The vehicle is equipped with a hot-air heating WEBASTO with the divorce of warm air. The connecting means form a radio station of RF-13250 with a source box MA 1302 with the possibility of supply of personal radios.


Caymans were first operationally deployed on the territory of the african state Mali - three of a kind vehicles from the arsenal of 43. airborne mechanized battalion since march 2013, she worked in the EU mission TM (the task of the Czechs was to protect the headquarters of the EU mission TM to ensure the training maliských soldiers, the object was in Bamako).

Poslanecká sněmovna Parlamentu České republiky 24. března 2022 schválila mandát, který umožnil až 650 příslušníkům Armády České republiky působit na Slovensku do 30. června 2023. Mandát zahrnoval také logistickou jednotku o síle zhruba 50 vojáků, kteří měli na starost provoz humanitární základny pro ukrajinské uprchlíky u Liptovského Mikuláše. Vytvoření bojového uskupení na Slovensku je součástí snahy posílit východní křídlo Severoatlantické aliance kvůli ruské vojenské invazi na Ukrajinu. NATO proto rozhodlo o vzniku stálé alianční přítomnosti na Slovensku, v Maďarsku, Rumunsku a Bulharsku. Mnohonárodní bojové uskupení NATO bude fungovat pod českým velením. Do bojové skupiny se dále zapojí vojáci z Německa, Nizozemska, Polska, Slovenska, Slovinska a USA. Celkově může mít dle mandátu schváleného slovenským parlamentem bojové uskupení až 2100 vojáků.


Dne 4. dubna 2022 zahájil činnost a dosáhl počátečních operačních schopností 1. kontingent úkolového uskupení enhanced Vigilance Activities, který se skládá z mnohonárodního koordinačního prvku a mnohonárodního smíšeného pěšího praporu, jehož jádro tvoří vojáci 43. výsadkového pluku. Počáteční operační schopnost bojového uskupení zabezpečilo nejdříve 250 vojáků. Jejich počty se do konce června 2022 postupně navýší podle mandátu až na 650, kdy dosáhnou plné operační schopnosti. Český kontingent se skládá z týmu Vojenské policie a jednotek bojové a logistické podpory. V rámci získání požadované operační schopnosti jednotka postupně doplní vojáky a vymění příslušníky 43. výsadkového pluku za vojáky mechanizovaného praporu 4. brigády rychlého nasazení.

Cvičení Steinfeld 2023 se odehrávalo od 3. do 14. července 2023 nejen ve velké části okresů Wiener Neustadt a Neunkirchen, ale také přímo v ulicích Vídeňského Nového Města. První týden se zaměřil na ochranu kritické infrastruktury, druhý na vojenskou obranu státu. Část probíhala na počítačových simulátorech, stovky vojáků vybavených taktickými soubojovými simulátory ale plnily úkoly přímo v rakouských městech a na venkově. Do cvičení se za českou armádu zapojili vojáci ze 102. průzkumného praporu a 43. výsadkového pluku. Osm desítek českých výsadkářů provádělo patroly, průzkum určeného prostoru s drony a odstřelovači, obsazení míst a jejich předání mechanizovaným jednotkám na bojových vozidlech pěchoty. Vojáci ze 102. průzkumného praporu měli u Vídeňského Nového Města za úkol kromě jiného získávat informace o nepříteli přímo z bojiště a předávat je nadřízeným místům velení. Cvičení Steinfeld 2023, jednoho z největších vojenských cvičení Bundesheeru v roce 2023, se zúčastnilo zhruba 1700 vojáků (včetně stovky českých), 200 kolových vozidel a 12 bojových vozidel pěchoty Ulan.
