JAWA 250 typ 553/03

M 255A
The Swedish army at the end of the fifties decided to modernize its park of motorcycles and announced a competition, one of the conditions was that the motorcycles will be able to operate even in the conditions of the local winters. A tender eventually won the JAWA with a motorcycle JAWA 250 type 553, derived from the competitive machines nicknamed "Libeňák". The first delivery militarizovaných machines started in the year 1959 and a year later added and exports, a stronger třistapadesátek. The type has been marked as the JAWA 250 type 553/03. Later at the end of the sixties machine was modernized, and apparently are re-modernised machines in Sweden because the company got the components for the modernization, a new type is called as type 579/03.
The best known part of the militarization of Sweden are hinged skis, attached to the frame and held in a slightly raised position with a rubber provazcem. But, because the rider who has the legs on the skis would not be able to control the brake of the rear wheel, this brake is transferred even on the handlebars and the have on the right hand of the two levers (well it is visible on the frame from the front. Another change was of the sort that has been transferred to the right hand side on the rear part of the tank where there was a lever of the sort on the frames, unfortunately, the machine of this modification does not and it is just a tube under the rear of the tank, which was the carrier of the entire device (it was the rod from the foot lever axis passing through the said tube and its own lever), on the motorcycle, furthermore missing the bag on the tank (removable) . Militarization further include a carrier, which is well seen on the view from the rear and the added military light for night driving(it was above the standard reflector and is not here, but some of the machines seemed to have had a place the cover on the normal reflector). The Swedish designation was 255A for the older version, for newer then 257A.
