The prototype took off on May 30, 1948, 4 years before being put into service. The project included two 20 mm cannons in the tail range, but most Marlins were not equipped with them
Among foreign users were only France, which received 12 P5M-2 and used them in 1959-1964.
P5M were deployed in combat in Vietnam. They monitored shipping along the coast and undertook search and rescue operations.
Marlin s otevřenými pumovnicemi, umístěnými do motorových gondol. Do každé se vešla dvě torpéda.
