A photo like this would be absolutely ideal:

The meaning of the markings (from left):
a) 3rd Cavalry Regiment
b) 21st Infantry Regiment
c) 1st Infantry Regiment
d) 29th Infantry Regiment
e) Engineer Training School
the number below is the serial number of the bayonet.

And the detail of the lion on the breech and the acceptance mark of our army E4lev39, from 1939, E4 reveals that the rifle was produced in the sister plant of the Brno Armoury in Povážská Bystrica.

So hopefully this color picture will be more telling than the black and white about the rifle's mechanism. It is an appendix 1 of the 1938 NCO manual.

Diskuse

Hi, I can't find it anywhere, doesn't anyone know how the markings on our rifles went in the timeline? So far, I have seen the inscription on the chamber "ČS. ZÁVODY NA VÝROBU ZBRANÍ BRNO" and without marking the pattern on the side of the breech case; "ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ ZBROJOVKA BRNO" with marking vz. 24 and then of course with the lion. The first marking was on a rifle with an army acceptance from 1924. It is already vz. 24 or some intermediate model or period modified vz. 23? Thanks for any feedback.

This marking was used on rifles vz.23 and on the early vz.24 (the year changes to label, but from the head I don't remember)
Since the inspection mark is from the year 1924, it is possible that it is vz.23 (produced in September 1924). However, from these photos, it is not possible to discern.

Rifle vz.23 and vz.24 were structurally basically identical, the main difference was the technology. At vz.23 it was necessary fine tuning and adjustment of parts during assembly, vz.24 been produced in the tolerance of the system and fine-tuning was not necessary.
However, in the minutiae of the original vz.23 from vz.24 distinguished: the lower (rear) sleeve, that was a lot closer to the mouth, the strap on the left side of the sleeve is solid, didn't have the wrist strap on the left side of the stock, the difference was in the curve locating the shoe-gazing (vz.23 solid, vz.23a removable, vz.24 detachable).

The most noticeable differences vz.23 thus, there are differences on the butt. The bad news is, that at a later time, with the stock changing for that of vz.24.
For an unambiguous determination of the type would then be a need for a rifle to disassemble and inspect the individual parts - vz. 23 individual parts should be stamped with the serial number of the gun, the vz.24 not..
