RDV 10/16M radio car

1. Designation:
Radio car RDV 10/16M is a mobile aviation connection device designed to ensure the connection between ground and aircraft radio stations operating in the high (VF/HF) and very high frequency (VHF/VHF) bands. ).
It is equipped with:
- 1x radio station type LR 10 M
I. SL/EL blocks frequency 300 - 600 kc/s (kHz);
II. blocks SK/EK) frequency 3 - 6 Mc/s (MHz)

- 1x radio station type LR 16 M
frequency 38.4 - 42.4 Mc/s (MHz)

- by a DKW 1.5 kW unit for the production of electricity outside the reach of the permanent distribution network.

2. Composition and description:
 Vehicle:
The basis is an off-road car (drive wheels on both axles - 4x4) with an engine brand Auto-Union-Horch V8 - 3.8 l, with an output of 90 hp, (or Opel-Blitz V6 with an output of 80 hp), tanks 70 + 40 l, range 300 + 140 km.
 Body: Enclosed, four-door, four-seater, rear with a special enclosed space, accessible by a door from the outside. The unit with accessories is stored in it.
 Special buildings:
Behind the bulkhead separating the driver's and the commander's radio compartment is a radio compartment for two radio operators.
A detachable common plate with a metal frame (sprung by "silenblocks") is attached to the partition and fitted with base plates, on which there are terminal blocks for mounting radio blocks LR 10M and LR 16M.
There is a radio desk on the consoles, on the left wall there is a speaker, on the right wall there is an antenna tuner DA 10M and distribution board RD 10/16M.
Electrical wiring:
- Main fuse controller 220 V/10 A,
- automatic circuit breakers 6 A
for power supplies of radio stations ZS 10 and ZS 16, for heating, socket 220 V and transformer 220/12 V, from which it is possible to supply lighting (or from the car battery). The electrical installation is complemented by 12 V sockets for the mounting lamp and a voltmeter for checking the mains voltage.
The car is earthed by connecting the cable from the terminal on the body to the terminal of the earthing tip.

 Radio stations LR 10M and LR 16M *
(* It cannot be exchanged for other LR 16 or LR 16P radios, even if they have the same connection terminals on the frame) because they are adapted for power supply from mains sources ZS 10M and ZS 16M.
For "two-band" radio station LR 10M only shortwave blocks ( SK 10 and EK 10[// b]).
The switch box SP 10M and the junction box ADb 11/M are used for control.
The speaker is used for loud listening, switched to the outputs of the receivers by a three-position switch:
- left: LR 16M receiver, - medium off, - right: LR 10M receiver).
Accessories consist of 2 helmets with headphones, neck microphone and connecting cable, [b ] telegraph key with cable, set of special tools, spare tubes (30 pcs) and fuses (112 pcs).

 Other equipment: The radio area is electrically heated by an indirect heating element with a power input of 750 W.
Behind the radio operator's seat (right) is a field telephone (trophy vz. [B] 33N, or a Soviet TAI 43).
The external telephone connection terminals are on the right side of the body, behind the rear door.
There are 500 m of cable on two drums for the construction of the connecting telephone line. The set is completed by winder (winding device).

 Sources of el.current:
The RDV 10/16M radio car can be powered from the e 220 V/50 c/s (50Hz) network. The mains supply cable (length 100 m) is wound on a drum, located in the rear space on the right, above the unit. Winding is done from the outside with the socket handle on the right side of the body.
Out of range of the power grid, the RDV is powered from the petrol unit DKW (220 V/50 c/s (Hz), power 1.5 kW), which is located at the rear of the car, to facilitate removal stored on a partially retractable floor. The weight of the unit is 160 kg, the tank is for 12.5 l of fuel mixture (petrol + oil, in the ratio 25: 1) and is enough for 4 hours of continuous operation. Another supply of fuel mixture is in 2 canisters of 20 l each.

 Antennas: The radio car is equipped with a retractable cable mast type Magirus 7 m, removably mounted in the suspension (on the left rear side) and during transport it is protected by a cover against dirt. When setting up the station (after removing the protective cover), the head for fixing three arms (60 cm dipoles) and the central, antenna rod 170 cm long are attached to the tip of the "last" part of the mast, the coaxial cable of the antenna lead for LR 16M is connected to the antenna bushing (on the left side of the body) and the antenna cable for the LR 10M radio is connected to the antenna bushing in the middle of the car roof.
