SVK/DEU - RM 70 Modular (122mm / 227mm raketomet)

The RM-70 (and in the future probably also RM-70/85) RM 70 Modular rocket launcher is used to upgrade the original MORAK rocket launchers. The modernisation package consists of a navigation and positioning system (NPS), a new on-board control system, a fire control system (FCS), an automatic diagnostic system, a radio station for automatic or automated data transmission between the missile launcher and the higher level of command, and other peripheral equipment. The system operates in the WINDOWS NT operating environment and also allows integration of the GPS satellite navigation system. The upgrade also enables the reduction of the crew from 4 to 3. The control of the rocket launcher, including aiming and firing, is carried out from the cockpit. Aiming and firing can also be performed from an adjacent shelter using the remote control yield block. In the RM 70 Modular rocket launcher, the launcher mounting system is additionally changed and replaced by a container system, where a container with 227 mm calibre rockets or a container with the original 122 mm rockets can be mounted. The only difference is the number of missiles in the new container. In the original RM-70, RM-70/85 and RM-70/85 M missile launchers there are 40 122 mm caliber missiles, in the container for the RM-70 Modular there are 28 122 mm caliber missiles (in the container for the 227 mm missiles there are 6 missiles). When reloading, the entire container needs to be replaced, which is handled by the launcher itself.



One (?) working sample of the RM-70 Modular rocket launcher was produced during development. The further continuation of the design work resulted in the final version RM-70/85 Modular introduced into the armament of the Slovak Armed Forces.

Description:


The RM-70 Modular rocket launcher was created by upgrading the RM-70 system. In place of the launcher for 122 mm calibre rockets, an LPC container was installed, which is also used on the US MLRS system. Furthermore, the RM-70 Modular system is equipped with a superstructure enabling field navigation, calculations and adjustments of firing elements and automatic data transmission. The system was introduced into the arsenal in 2003.
