4K87 Missile/SSC-2A Salish
4K87 Volcano is a missile complex, armed with a guided missile (with a flat flight path) type ground-to-ground KS-7 ( & # 1050; & # 1057; -7) (FKR-1 ( & # 1060; & # 1050; & # 1056; -1)). The missile was developed from an anti-ship airborne missile KS -1 (ground anti-ship variant of this complex has the designation 4K87 Volcano/SS-2B Samlet)
FKR - front winged rocket ( & # 1060; & # 1050; & # 1056; - & # 1092; & # 1088; & # 1086; & # 1085; & # 1090; & # 1086; & # 1074; & # 1072; & # 1103; & # 1082; & # 1088; & # 1099; & # 1083; & # 1072; & # 1090; & # 1072; & # 1103; & # 1088; & # 1072; & # 1082; & # 1077; & # 1090; & # 1072;)
The development of the complex began in May 1954 and was put into service March 3, 1957 (Sovmin decision & # 8470; 320-154/1957), although the production of missiles began in 1956.
In the summer of 1959, the VVS (Air Force) of the Soviet Army had a total of 7 regiments, each regiment had 20 FKR-1 missiles.
In the fall of 1962, the 561st and 584th Regiment of Fronted Winged Missiles ( 561 - & # 1081; & # 1087; & # 1086; & # 1083; & # 1082; & # 1092; & # 1088; & # 1086; & # 1085; & # 1090; & # 1086; & # 1074; & # 1099; & # 1093; & # 1082; & # 1088; & # 1099; & # 1083; & # 1072; & # 1090 ; & # 1099; & # 1093; & # 1088; & # 1072; & # 1082; & # 1077; & # 1090 ;, 584 - & # 1081; & # 1087; & # 1086; & # 1083; & # 1082; & # 1092; & # 1088; & # 1086; & # 1085; & # 1090; & # 1086; & # 1074; & # 1099; & # 1093; & # 1082; & # 1088; & # 1099; & # 1083; & # 1072; & # 1090; & # 1099; & # 1093; & # 1088; & # 1072; & # 1082; & # 1077; & # 1090;) relocated to Cuba . Each regiment had 8 transport-launchers, with a total of 80 nuclear warheads.
FKR-1 missiles were decommissioned in the late 80's.
The firing element (usually a regiment) of the 4K87 complex was formed by 8 tractors KrAZ-214 with uniaxial semitrailers Ch-7, which served as a transport and at the same time rocket launcher and command post.
