Agricultural Schlepper

The Versailles Peace Treaty forbade Germany from developing, manufacturing and owning tanks after the defeat in World War I. Despite the restrictions, a technique was being developed that could be used as a basis for the production of tanks even before Adolf Hitler came to power. Such a technique has very often been developed as agricultural and forestry tractors. This is also the case with this vehicle, on which the German industry was to verify the production possibilities. The production of 15 vehicles (each of the selected 3 manufacturers 3 pieces) was decided in 1933, under the name Landwirtschaftlicher Schlepper (agricultural tractor).

The chassis of the vehicle was formed by an armored tub on the sides of which were placed 4 castors, a tensioner wheel, 3 support pulleys and a drive wheel. The castors were connected in pairs, the first wheel being sprung with coil springs and an oil damper, the other 3 wheels being sprung with leaf springs and connected by a support beam to a tension wheel (the construction of the undercarriage was based on the Carden-Lloyd design).
The vehicle was open from above, in the front was the workplace of the instructor and driver, behind them were 3 places for other students. There was an engine compartment in the rear covered part.

The vehicles were intended only for driver training. In the spring of 1934, they were assigned to the first two tank regiments and the Motorized Instruction Command Zossen and Ohrdruf ( Kraftfahrllehrkommando Zossen und Ohrdruf so that the first members of the tank units can gain experience in driving fully tracked vehicles.

The chassis, supplemented by an armored superstructure and tower became the basis of the German light tank Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf. A.
