Brief history:
This aircraft was the first of the series sometimes more, but often less successful attempts to make of the Fw 190 altitude fighter. The aircraft should be equipped with a pressurized cabin and the power unit remained the original - dvojvězdicový čtrnáctiválec the BMW 801 D-2, but to ensure good výškovost engine, counting the professor Kurt Tank with the installation then being developed by turbo compressors of the firm Hirth. Against the original Focke-Wulfům got a new plane wings with the enlarged margin. Wings with a larger supporting surface (20,3 m2) should be helped better handling in the rarefied air of great heights. The development of turbo compressors but late, because there other solution than to start with experimenting with the device GM-1, which was the injection of nitrous oxide into the engine intake. Tests of the new aircraft, which first got into the air 9.1.1943, but accompanied by constant problems, these mainly related to the pressurised cabin, which was leaking (the sharp edges of the frames of the cabs cut rubber seals), adversely resulted in a large weight of the aircraft, that caused the device to GM-1. In the course of the tests in Langenhagene and from may 1943 in Gap moreover, it turns out that even with the device GM-1 original engine BMW 801 D-2 at high altitudes does not stand up - due to the more hopeful-looking results in the type of Fw 190 C-0, which powered inline engine DB 603, the project was fairly quickly terminated. Two prototypes were used in the development of other versions of the Fw 190.
