ATILGAN - a stand-mounted, portable, very short-range anti-aircraft system developed by ASELSAN based on the PMADS system. The system consists of an electrically powered turret with a gunner's station and a two-plane stabilised platform with reconnaissance and firing assets located outside the turret (above the turret). In total, up to 8 missiles FIM-92 Stinger are placed in a pair of containers on the sides of the reconnaissance assets. The entire turret is mounted on an M-113 armored transpointer, an asset introduced in the Turkish Armed Forces' armament (introduced in 2004-2008).
The system is designed for the direct defense of ground forces against short-range attacks by low-flying aircraft and helicopters, it is equipped with passive, optoelectronic reconnaissance means with the ability to work even in low visibility (day and night - IR channel), which allows automatic target detection and tracking. The vehicle is also equipped with an active Inherent-Foreign-Finding (IFF) target recognition and a laser rangefinder. The system also allows receiving air situation information from the C3I (Command, Control, Communication, Intelligence) superior system via ASV, the system can also be controlled (including target detection and intercept and missile launch) from the gunner-operator's vantage point. At the same time, the control computer allows for software updates when changes are required.
Basic tactical and technical data:
Operator: 3 (driver, commander, gunner-operator)
Armament: 12.7 mm machine gun, up to 8 x FIM-92 Stinger
Chassis: M 113
