SOV - AK-3 (automobilový žeriav)

AK-3 (АК-3) - automotive crane with a capacity of 3 t, with electric drive.

Chassis: ZiS-6

The first 30 AK-3 automobile cranes were produced in 1938-1939 by the Lenigrad plant "Krasnyj metallist" ("Красный металлист"). In February 1941, the Red Army carried out comparative tests of this crane with the AKM crane of the Odessa "January Uprising" plant (завода им. Январского восстания"). Based on the results of the trials, it was decided to introduce the AK-3 into the army's armament, but the outbreak of war with Germany did not allow the development of large-scale production.

Despite the fact that the crane was developed in Leningrad, its production began at the Odessa plant of the "January Uprising", which gave the crane the nickname "Janvarets" ("Январец"). The crane underwent several upgrades and continued in production after the war (probably until 1950).
