After the Skoda Š-I-d and Skoda Š-I-D projects, a type of small gun tank was ordered by the Yugoslav military authorities in mid-1937 from the Skoda company according to the new specifications. Compared to previous designs, the new Škoda Š-I-j type was larger, had a more sophisticated and modern chassis, and the machine was powered by a new engine. The chassis consisted of 4 large running wheels on each side. The same type of chassis was also used for the prototype light gun motor vehicle caterpillar Š-LKMVP. The machine was powered by a Skoda diesel engine. The artillery armament consisted of a 47 mm Skoda A-9J cannon and an additional 7.92 mm machine gun ZB vz.30J. The prototype was completed by the agreed deadline, then demonstrated and tested directly in Yugoslavia by the customer in 1939/40. The vehicle was deemed satisfactory, despite not fully meeting the requirements placed on it, and an order for 108 of this machine was planned. However, in the meantime, Yugoslav requirements for new armoured vehicles had changed, concentrating on the higher categories.
In 5/1939 the designation of the machine was changed to T-1D, in 8/1940 to T-2D and in 3/1941 to T-3D. The machine remained at the parent factory as a demonstration vehicle until it was taken by representatives of the Waffen SS on 17/9/1943 to the Weapons Technical Training Institute in Munich. No further information is known about what happened to the prototype.
