After the cancellation of tank production Pz.Kpfw. II, when the platforms were to be used only for the production of self-propelled guns and tank fighters, the already produced turrets were used for the needs of the fortress units. The turrets of the Pz.Kpfw.II tanks were rigged on the ceiling of the bunker. The turret itself was mounted on the ceiling armour plate of the tank platform. The plan of the reinforced concrete bunker was octagonal in shape. The turrets were not modified in any way. Their armament consisted of a 2 cm Kw.K. 30 gun and a MG 34 machine gun of 7.92 mm calibre. The ammunition supply consisted of 2,800 rounds for the gun and 19,000 rounds for the machine gun. The armour of the turrets was identical to the turrets of the individual tank versions. The height of the turret itself was 590 mm, the concrete base was 240 mm high. The first order was placed with Famo Werk Ursus, which produced 335 turrets (this number includes the turrets delivered for the modified form Pz.Kpfw.Turm II (Normalserie) - Bauform 237 Achteckigen Fundament). Another 49 turrets were prepared by M.A.N. Another order was again placed with Famo Werk Ursus, who prepared 40 turrets. The last order was placed by the firm Skoda and Artillerie Werkstadt Kdtr. Hill Süd, which prepared 28 turrets (this number includes the turrets delivered for the modified Pz.Kpfw.Turm II (Normalserie) - Bauform 237 Achteckigen Fundament).

The turrets produced had code markings on the underside of the rear armour, identifying the type of tank the turret was from, the manufacturer's code and the serial number.
