Tatra 816-6VWN9T 43 610 8x8.1R is a heavy semi-trailer (or also saddle) tractor, called TTT - Tatra Tank Transporter. This is a vehicle from the T816 FORCE model series, which is designed for the transport of wheeled and crawler equipment up to a maximum weight of up to 74,500 kg, while maintaining the highest throughput in difficult terrain.
The design is eight-wheeled, with permanent drive of all 4 axles (8x8). The front axles (1st and 2nd) are swinging half-axles suspended by leaf springs and telescopic shock absorbers. The rear axles (3rd and 4th) are also swinging half-axles and use suspension by means of leaf springs and air bellows springs (so-called heavy KING-FRAME variant).
The cabin is trambus, all-metal, long variant, 4-door, for 8 people (including the driver). Cab tilting is hydraulic. It can be equipped with dependent oil or independent diesel heating and air conditioning. The car is equipped with two winches. Each with a pulling force of 250 kN and a rope length of 70 m.


The vehicle is powered by a supercharged diesel, water-cooled, 12-cylinder MTU engine with direct fuel injection, model 12V 183 TD224 with a rated output of 610 kW (830 horsepower) and a displacement of 21,930 l (dm 3). The Twin Disc TD101-3600 automatic transmission with 10 forward and one reverse gears is used to transfer power.
The curb weight of the vehicle (tractor) is 20,500 kg, the maximum load of the vehicle is 43,500 kg and the total weight of the whole set can reach up to 120,000 kg.
The low loader semitrailer, which is together with the T816-6VWN9T in the pictures, is a 5-axle model ST 70-93 L3 from Kögel. The curb weight is 23,000 kg, the payload of the vehicle can be up to 72,000 kg and the total maximum weight of the low loader can reach up to 95,000 kg.


One prototype T816-6VWN9T was produced in 1997 for the needs of the tender of the United Arab Emirates army for a new tank transporter. In October of the same year, the vehicle took part in verification tests directly in the customer's country. In the end, however, the competition won in this competition - the Belarusian MZKT-74135. The United Arab Emirates purchased 40 sets consisting of this tractor, a low loader semi-trailer and a low loader trailer that could be attached behind the semi-trailer. A complete set consisting of a semi-trailer and a trailer was able to transport two tanks at once Leclerc Trop or one tank Leclerc Trop and two combat vehicles infantry BMP-3. The only manufactured T816-6VWN9T was eventually bought by an Australian dealer of Tatra.
