In 1953, a quad machine gun consisting of four vz.38/46 (a licensed heavy machine gun DŠKM) was introduced as an armament of the Czechoslovak army under the name 12.7 mm PL quad machine gun vz.53. The Lafete was developed, designed and manufactured in Czechoslovakia. After World War II, the vz.38/46 S heavy machine gun was produced under license in this country as a single-barrelled machine gun, with a protective shield, on a special base with 2 wheels.
