Fw 200 C-3/U2 captured by the Red Army at Gumrak airfield on 31.01.1943. Note the emblem on the front of the aircraft, which ranks the machine with I./KG 40. The German designation of the aircraft was F8+GW, W.Nr. 0034. The machine was assigned to an ad hoc formed unit called Kampfgruppe zur besonderen Verwendung 200 under the command of Major Hans-Jürgen Williers, whose task was to supply the troops surrounded in Stalingrad and to transport the wounded.

The machine was hit by ground fire during the resupply flight and made an emergency landing at the aforementioned airfield. The Soviets repaired the machine and later intensively tested it at the Scientific Research Institute of Military Aviation from 23.03. to 21.04.1943. The aircraft was left in its original markings during the trials, only the German insignia on the fuselage and wings was repainted with red stars. Even before the actual flight tests began, Soviet engineers noted the considerable similarity of the cockpit controls layout and interior arrangement to the American machine DC-3. At the same time, the well-known fact was stated that the Fw 200 was merely a modification of what was originally a civilian machine into a long-range bomber, and was thus not a full-fledged military machine. In relation to the size of the machine, the layout of the crew compartments was judged to be cramped, which made it difficult for its members to perform their tasks, especially during long-haul flights. The test pilots compared the flight characteristics of the Fw 200 C with a machine of indigenous design Pe-8 with four engines AM-35A and concluded that Petlyakov's bomber significantly outperformed the German aircraft in top speed, altitude range, number and deployment of weapons as well as their calibers.

The Soviet researchers evaluated very positively the carefully designed and manufactured electrical components, the sights for low-altitude bombing, and the simple and reliable de-icing system.

After the tests were completed, all these units, together with the EZ-2 radio compass and other equipment, were handed over to the relevant research institutes for further detailed examination at the end of April 1943. The aircraft itself ended up as an exhibit in Gorky Park in Moscow, where it was on display from 1943 to 1948, with the original German markings restored. Its further fate is unknown.
