Lauster FM

Lauster FM

One prototype of the Lauster FM (also known as the FML (Funktions-Modell Lauster-Achse)) was built in 1969 on the order of the Bundeswehr. The aim was to test in military conditions the characteristics of the axle design called the Lauster Achse (Lauster axle), which dates back to the 1940s and originated in Germany with the Lauster family. The basis was a wide steel wheel between the wheels of the driven axle. It would slide out when needed (in difficult terrain), reducing the specific pressure on the soil and improving its distribution. As a result, the tractive effort of the vehicle would be improved. The Lauster FM was diesel-electric powered.
