Zastava CZ 99

- Yugoslav self-loading pistol

For most people interested in firearms, the abbreviation CZ embodies a well-known domestic manufacturer - Česká zbrojovka in Uherský Brod. However, you would look in vain for a CZ 99 pistol in its production program. It originated in a country that is not one of the best known in the world of small arms manufacturers - in Yugoslavia.

The development of this weapon began in the former Yugoslavia in 1989 at the Crvena Zvezda plant (hence the acronym CZ) in Kragujevac (now Serbia) and went into production in 1991. The design of the weapon is evidently inspired by the Swiss-German pistol SIG Sauer P 226. 41370] Walthra P88[/url]. With SIG Sauer, it has the same light alloy frame concept as the lock solution modified by a modified Browning system in an enlarged ejection window. However, this is not an ordinary copy of the SIG. At first glance, the CZ 99 differs from the SIG by the absence of a lock catch lever and the existence of a double-lever lever for safe tap release. This lever also serves to release the lock from the rear position after replacing the cartridge. Unlike the SIG, the CZ 99 does not have a lock case made of sheet metal, but of a steel forging.

As already mentioned, the CZ 99 is a semi-automatic service pistol with a locked Browning-type breech. It is a system with a short recoil barrel, which locks the breech with its prismatic rear part into an enlarged ejection window of the breech. The percussion mechanism is of the tap type with a transfer to the firing pin, which is supplemented by an automatic locking preventing the contact of the detonator with the charge of the charge without completely pressing the trigger. At the same time, the interrupter prevents the shot from being locked. The tray release button is double-sided. The lever for disassembling the weapon is only on the left side of the body of the weapon. The barrel with six clockwise grooves is hard chrome-plated inside and out, making it virtually indestructible. The manufacturer declares a service life of mainly 200,000 shots (!).

After the destruction of the factory in Kragujevac during the war, the weapon was offered to the civilian market by the now non-existent South African company Tressit under the name TZ-99, even in caliber .40 S & amp; W. After rebuilding the factory, a compact version of the CZ 99 Compact G and a version marked CZ 99S were introduced into production, differing from the original by the presence of a fuse lever at the end (as in Walther P88).

The CZ 99 is currently introduced as a standard service weapon in the Serbian army and is considered a reliable, albeit somewhat robust, weapon on the civilian market.
