Development In 1992, a version of the MP5 was created, which has been adapted for the more powerful 10mm Auto cartridge. This variant was developed and produced mainly for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which introduced it as its new submachine gun in 1994. However, at the same time, the FBI decided that it would prefer the weapon to be easier to use, and achieved this by having Heckler & Koch rebuild (for a rather generous fee, of course) the MP5/10 submachine gun to use the less powerful round.40 S&W and thus gave rise to the MP5/40 model, which he also introduced into the arsenal. Fully automatic submachine guns are primarily intended for FBI special task forces (not unlike police SWAT teams) for hostage liberation, fighting organized crime, terrorism, etc. ... Nowadays both weapons are no longer manufactured. Production lasted from about 1992 until 2000. However, the weapons are still in the FBI's arsenal.
Description Both the MP5/10 and MP5/40 models are based on the original MP5. The only notable differences are the use of a different type of ammunition and the use of a different type of magazine. The guns are based on the MP5 A4 and MP5 A5 models, i.e. they are found with both fixed and extendable shoulder rests. The firing mode switch combined with the safety has 4 positions, locked, single shot, three-shot burst and fully automatic firing. The various functions are displayed by pictograms. The Bureau of Investigation also ordered a single-shot-only version (essentially a self-loading carbine), which is equipped for use by regular FBI agents when needed. Both guns use a straight magazine (i.e., curved as in the standard MP5), which was previously made of clear plastic (the same as in the H&K G36), but is now replaced by opaque plastic in light blue or black. A variety of accessories such as rifle scopes, night vision devices, flashlights or laser markers can be reattached to the guns.
Variants The MP5/10 semi-automatic (and presumably self-loading carbine) uses the very powerful 10 mm Auto (10 x 25 mm) cartridge, with both fixed and extendable shoulder rests. As well as the MP5/40 submachine gun and carbine using a less powerful cartridge .40 S&W (10 x 22 mm) than the above, in fixed and extendable shoulder rest variants.
