Dagger of the Hlinka Guard transport service

A dagger used during the period of the First Slovak Republic (1939-1945) by members of the Hlinka Guard. There are three variants of this weapon, which are identical in shape and dimensions and differ only in colour.

Weapon set in brass. Barrel in the shape of an eagle's head. Esovite folded guard in the middle of the outer side marked with the letters HDG. Handle made of one piece of wood, brown in colour. In the middle of the handle there may be a circular medallion with a diameter of 20 mm, in the middle of which is the Slovak emblem (a two-armed cross). In this case made of brass. However, this is an unofficial addition to the weapon, which is quite rare.

The Čepeľ is double-edged with double-sided cut, passing into the central point. In weapons manufactured by Zbrojovka Brno, the centre cut has a rectangular žnickel shape in the middle of the front side with the motto "The way back is impossible". On the other side of the čepele there is the maker's mark in the middle of the engraving. In the case of weapons manufactured by J.Richardus, Kovopriemysel Ružomberok, the engraving is narrower and without inscriptions; the weapons from this manufacturer are of lower quality overall.

The scabbard is steel, čblack lacquered with brass fittings. The upper fitting with a hinge ring, the lower one finished with a ball. The overall shape of the scabbard is reminiscent of the scabbard of the dagger of the NSKK (National sozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps), i.e. the transport service of the NSDAP, which used the same colour combination.

Weapon length: 365 mm
Length of the gun: 220 mm
Width of the blade: 32 mm
