The designation F.Pz.PD 4814 belongs to the project of using turrets of Italian tanks P 26/40 in fortress defence. The turret has been modified. The original armament of the P.40 tank, i.e. the 75 mm Ansaldo L/34 gun and the Breda Modello 38 machine gun of 8 mm calibre, was replaced by the German 75 mm Kw.K.L/24 gun and the MG 42 machine gun of 7.92 mm calibre. The order of 13 January 1945 was for 100 turrets to be mounted in the forts of the foothills in northern Italy. The armour of the front of the turret was 60 mm thick, the sides and rear 45 mm, the ceiling was 20 mm thick. The height of the tower itself was about 775 mm, the concrete base was about 280 mm high. A reinforced concrete bunker, designated Bauform 249, was designed for this tower.
According to a report of 27 February 1945, 46 towers for this purpose were to be built already in 1944. Another report from 29.3.1945 stated that one gun was delivered to Ansaldo in Genoa, one gun was sent to Schichau and 100 guns to a company in Pardubice in the Czech Republic. In fact, however, the only completed turret was a prototype mounted and tested at Hillersleben. It was stored on a wooden base, which was another option for the lafetation and mla i a separate project (F.Pz.PD 4814 auf Holzsockel).
