Urho Sakari Lehtovaara

Died 27.10.1917 in Pyhäjärvi in northern Finland.1940 he was stationed with Combat Unit 2. LLv 28 where he flew the MS.406 achieved his first aerial victory in the Winter War.
He added further aerial victories on 3.7.1941 during the Continuation War when he downed the DB-3, in the following six days, he added two SB-2 and MiG-3 in a single combat flight, becoming an ace. On July 23, he shot down two more DB-3 and was promoted to staff sergeant. On September 9, he shot down three I-16s in a single mission, followed two days later by the reward of another promotion. After that, his unit was moved to Karelia, the day's opportunity for aerial combat was considerably less.
On March 5, 1943 he achieved a double kill and his last at Moran, as 23 days later he was transferred to the 3rd Squadron LeLv 34 operating on the Bf 109G.On March 6, 1944, Lehtovaara shot down two Pe-2s on his first flight of the day, while on the second he added a kill on the La-5. This was followed by a rearmament to the G6 version and further aerial victories, such as two Soviet fighters on 17 May and two Pe-2s and two P-39s on 19 June in a single flight. He shot down a P-39 on July 25, 1944, and closed his combat record at 44.5 aerial victories for over 400 combat sorties.
