Slovak Mining Museum, Exposition of Anti-Turkish Battles - Banská Štiavnica
Anti-Turkish fortifications built in 1564-1571. Renaissance anti-Turkish fortress built from originally Romanesque-Gothic church, carnery and fortifications. The building served as part of the city's anti-Turkish fortifications. Today it houses the Slovak Mining Museum and an exhibition documenting the history of the battles against Turkish expansion. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The building itself is really impressive, especially the Turkish-themed exposition. Particularly impressive is the large map on the top floor, which marks the then contemporary fortress systems of castles, fortified towns and other structures designed to contain the rise of Turkish expansionism.
This exhibition is only one part of the Slovak Mining Museum. Mining expositions are located in other buildings in the city. The museum also includes outdoor exhibitions.
