[XR-5A - XR-5 with RAF specification equipment; 2 conversions


YR-5A - preproduction version of the XR-5 with minor production conversions; 26 units


R-5A/H-5A[/url]R-5A/H-5A - production version, ability to carry two stretchers on external carriers; 34 pcs


R-5B - modified R-5A, cancelled project


YR-5C - cancelled project


R-5D/H-5D - modified R-5A with added nose wheel and rescue winch; 20 R-5A conversions, 1 YR-5A


YR-5E/YH-5E - modified YR-5A with dual steering; 5 YR-5A conversions


R-5F/H-5FR-5F/H-5F - military variant of the four-seat civilian and export S-51, tail wheel removed, completely redesigned nose, and stretcher carriers; 11 units


H-5GH-5G - similar to the H-5F, plus winch and other minor changes; 39 units


H-5HH-5H - redesigned fuselage with four protrusions, allowing three stretchers and a nurse to be placed across the inside; at least some of the machines received floats with retractable landing gear; 16 units


HO2S-1 - designation of two YR-5As delivered to the U.S. Navy, later turned over to the Coast Guard; 42 ordered, order later cancelled


HO3S-1HO3S-1 - S-51 variant for the Navy, more or less identical to the H-5F; 92 units including 4 original civilian S-51s


HO3S-1G - HO3S-1 designation for Coast Guard; 9 units


HO3S-2 - naval version of H-5H, not produced


HO3S-3 - HO3S-1 with modified rotor


S-51 - civilian four-seat version with new nose; 55 units


Westland Dragonfly - British licensed version


Westland Widgeon - British licensed version with new bow
