history
Unit is formed on the base Point Cook in Australia 1.7.1939 as a maritime reconnaissance unit equipped with a mix of various flying boats. Shortly after the formation of the part of the staff moving to Great Britain for conversion to aircraft Sunderland. After the outbreak of the war connects to it the rest of the unit and up to the end of the war, carried out anti-ship and anti-submarine operations mainly in the area of the bay of Biscay, the detachment shortly also operate from Gibraltar. After the conclusion of the truce is transferred to the transport air force (Transport Command) and the end of October 1945 it disbanded.
From 1949 up to the present once again there are as part of the australian air force (RAAF).
