37 mm M1 anti-aircraft cannon

The development of a light 37 mm anti-aircraft cannon began in 1921 under the leadership of John M. Browning for the project of anti-aircraft vehicle on the chassis half-belt M3 . Production began in 1934.

Several different versions of the cannon were produced - in addition to the basic weapon (on a separate four-wheeled chassis, or part of the superstructure on armored vehicles) for US Navy produced anti-aircraft cannons marked 37 mm AN-M4 a pre US Army Air Corps Automatic Gun M4.

The cannons produced by Colt were designated Colt 37 mm.

The disadvantage of the cannon was the weak ammunition, but still sufficient for use. The cannons were gradually replaced in the USA by Bofors cannons (40 mm), but within the military aid of the USSR during WW2 they found great use in the Red Army.
