A novel by Slovenian author Tone Svetina, based on a partly espionage plot set during the Yugoslav resistance against the German occupation.
A girl whose boyfriend (or lover) is a participant in the armed resistance becomes the mistress of a German officer and is later employed as an interpreter, working for the partisan movement and witnessing the horrors of war (actions against the civilian population, anti-partisan actions). She gradually comes to the conclusion that her boyfriend (lover) has betrayed her and is actually working against the partisans. Some parts of the book are fairly accurate descriptions of actual episodes of the German occupation of Yugoslavia, it cannot be ruled out that the book could have been written based on the author's experience...
