The second generation of Chinese shoulder-fired portable anti-aircraft missiles. First shown in 1994 in Farnborugh, it is comparable to the American FIM-92 Stinger, but compared to it it has a slightly more effective range, better target capture ability and warhead effect.
It is designed for the destruction of aircraft and helicopters at ground and low altitudes.
Compared to the first generation of Chinese portable anti-aircraft missiles ( HN-5), the QW-1 is able to act on aircraft and on arrival .
In addition to the portable set, the missile is also adapted for use from a launcher mounted on vehicles (ships) or used as part of hybrid anti-aircraft systems. When used on helicopters, it is capable of acting as a short-range air-to-air missile.
