OVERVIEW OF R-118

It is a shortwave, two-channel, medium power station.
(The present R-118 radio station had three groups of development series (I., II., III.) This was preceded by the development of individual versions
and was reflected both in the transmitter itself (different frequency range, power, etc.) and in the car bodies used.

- I. Radio station R-118 ("Stadion")
was produced in 3 basic variants:
- R-118 default type
- The R-118A ("A" = Aviation/Aviation) in the KUNG-1 box body on the ZIS-151
with a VHF radio R-800 (RSIU-3M) for aircraft communications
- R-118B ("Б" = сухопутных войск / ground troops) in the KUNG-1 box body on the ZIS-151
Used teletype type ST-35
Main receiver: R-152"Amur" (Replaced by type R-154-2"Molybdenum"
Backup receiver R-253 "Alpha" (later replaced by type R-311"Omega")
Power plant AB-2-0/230
***
- II. Radio station R-118BM
It is a shortwave, two-channel, medium power station.
In 1956, the station was modernized and both versions still in use were given the "M" (Modernization/Modernized) index.
R-118AM - for the Air Force
R-118BM - for ground troops
***
-R-118BM3 ("Sobol")
(Radio station R-118BM3 "Sobol")

Radio station R-118BM3 "Sobol":
- R-118BM3: basic modernized version, it was mounted in the KFU-1 car body GAZ-63A, from the 11th series GAZ-66-05 (and also eventually on ZIL-157 and KUNG bodies)
- P-118AM3 ("A"): "aeronautical", supplemented by a VHF radio R-801 (RSIU-4V) for communication with aircraft was newly mounted in the KFU-1 body of the GAZ-63A, from the 11th series GAZ-66-05 (possibly on ZIL-157 and KUNG bodies)
- P-118UM3 ("U"): "boxed" as transportable and used as stationary

A. Transmitter:
- Frequency range: 1.5 - 12 MHz
- Power: at A1 up to 400W; at A3 100W
- Types of operation:
- A1; A3
- F1A, F1B (teletype STA-67/ STA-2M)
B. Receivers:
- Main receiver: R-154-2M "Molybden"
- Backup receiver: R-311 "Omega"
C. Portable radios:
- R-109D
D. Power Supply:
- 220V/50Hz mains
- From the power supply AB-4-0/230M1

The R118BM radios mounted in the ZILs used the Soviet R311 as a backup receiver. Teletype D302 Dalibor uses MTA2 (international telegraph alphabet). MTA3 was used by Soviet telexes. These radios had a different driver than the R118BM3, so they could only work up to 7.5 MHz.
