RBS-23 BAMSE - an all-weather medium-range air defence system.
Manufacturer.
It is designed to defend important objects (air bases, command posts) and military units. It provides defence against various aerial targets (missiles, fighter and bomber aircraft, helicopters, transport aircraft).
The RBS-23 began production in 1998, with serial production starting in 2000.
The standard combat unit is a battery consisting of one Surveillance Co-ordination Center (SCC) radar (usually GIRAFFE AMB) and two to four Missile Control Centers (MCCs) launchers.
SCC - 3D radar with the ability to detect targets flying at ground altitude. It also provides target tracking and allocation to individual MCCs. It also has the capability to control other types of air defence assets (e.g. RBS-70). The individual MCCs communicate with the SCC via a cable link (fibre optic cables) or via radio data communication. The distance between the SCC and the MCC should not exceed 10 km.
MCC - contains the basic elements for fire control. It is mounted on an all-terrain trailer, The trailer prepares an all-terrain vehicle that also carries missiles for resupply. Preparation to fire is within 10 minutes.
The firing radar EAGLE, infrared detection system, IFF and weather sensors are mounted on a stabilized platform that is extendable to a height of 8 m.
The missile launcher is located at the base of the MMC and contains 4 anti-aircraft missiles. The reload time of the missiles after their launch is not more than 3 minutes.
Tactical-technical data:
Maximum target range: 15 km
Maximum target altitude: 12 000 m.
Operation:
SCC - 1-2 persons
MCC - 1-2 persons
Users: Sweden
