Annex to Act No. 404/90 Coll.
The Military Order of Milan Rastislav Štefánik (hereinafter referred to as the "Order of M. R. Štefánik") is conferred by the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic on persons who have made outstanding contributions to the defence and security of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.


Article 1
The President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic shall be entitled to the insignia of the First Class, which may be conferred on him for life after leaving office by a resolution of the Federal Assembly of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.
Article 2
(1) The Order Day is 8 May - the day of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
(2) The Order of M. R. Štefánik is conferred by the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic exclusively on the Order Day.
Article 3
The Order of M. R. Štefánik shall be conferred by the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic on soldiers, members of the Armed Forces and other personnel of these forces and battalions of military units for exceptional merit for the defence and security of the State, for outstanding command and combat activity and for scientific and professional work of a military and defence character.
Article 4
(1) The Order of M.R.Štefánik has five classes, of which the first is the highest.
(2) On conferring the Order, a numbered insignia and a numbered charter shall be presented. Upon the death of the person to whom the Order was conferred, the numbered insignia shall be returned to the Office of the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.
Article 5
(1) The badge of the Order of M. R. Štefánik is a white five-pointed star inscribed in a circle; there are equal circular spaces between each part. The gap between the two upper parts is closed by a cylindrical lug with a raised hinge in the form of a linden wreath with crossed swords tipped upwards. A blue medallion with a relief bust of M.R.Štefánik is placed on the centre of the star. On the reverse side of the star is a medallion with the emblem of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic in the centre and the motto "BELIEVE LOVE WORK" and 3 lime leaves in the white intercircle. The bust, the coat of arms, the hinge, the motto, the lime leaf and the framing of the star are made of yellow metal.
(2) The insignia of Class I of the Order consists of a jewel on a large shield worn from the right shoulder to the left hip and a star worn on the left side of the chest. The jewel consists of a badge of the Order with a diameter of 68 mm, the hanging with swords and wreath is 35x25 mm. The shield is 100 mm wide, white-blue-red-blue-white in the ratio 5:40:10:40:5. The star is ten-pointed silver, 90 mm in diameter, with the badge of the Order placed in the centre, accompanied by a white intercircle with the motto "BELIEVE LOVE WORK" and 3 lime leaves. The diameter of the badge is 68 mm. On the reverse of the star in the lens is the emblem of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.
(3) The insignia of the Second Class of the Order consists of the Order's badge on a necklace ribbon and a smaller star worn on the right side of the chest. The badge of the Order has a diameter of 62 mm, the hinge has dimensions of 30x20 mm and is supplemented by a vertical, white enamelled hanging clasp with dimensions of 30x4 mm. The neckband is 45 mm wide, white-blue-red-blue-white in the ratio 2:18:5:18:2. The star is five-pointed silver, 62 mm in diameter, with the Order badge in the centre, accompanied by a white intercircle with the Order motto "BELIEVE LOVE WORK" and 3 lime leaves. The diameter of the badge is 62 mm. On the reverse of the star in the lens is the emblem of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.
(4) The insignia of Class III of the Order is the same as that of Class II, but without the star.
(5) The insignia of Class IV of the Order consists of a badge with a diameter of 45 mm, the hinge is 20x15 mm. The badge is suspended from a 38 mm wide breast passage ribbon with a 30 mm diameter rosette, the ribbon is white-blue-red-white in the ratio 2:15:4:15:2.
(6) The insignia of Class V of the Order is the same as that of Class IV, but the ribbon is without the rosette.
(7) If the insignia of the Order of M. R. Štefánik are not worn "in natura", they are replaced by ribbons of 38x10 mm, supplemented according to the classes: class I crossed golden swords, class II crossed silver swords, class III horizontal golden sword, class IV rosette, class V ribbon only.
(8) On the civilian clothing, rosettes in the form of the Czechoslovak military cockade differentiated by a backing according to the individual classes are worn in the buttonhole of the left lapel: Class I crossed gold swords, Class II crossed silver swords, Class III vertical gold sword, Class IV vertical silver sword, Class V vertical bronze sword. The diameter of the cockade including the framing in the appropriate metal is 12 mm, the length of the swords is 25 mm.
(9) Matriculation numbers are placed on the reverse of the hinge of the Order's badge and on the upper edge of the lens on the reverse of the star.
Art.7
On ceremonial occasions, the insignia of the Order are worn "in natura", and only the insignia of the highest bestowed class. The insignia of the Order shall be replaced by ribbons on the service and walking uniform. The insignia of the Order are not worn on coats and sportswear.
Article 8
The insignia of the Order and the ribbons shall be worn on the left side of the breast.
Art.9
The affairs of the Order of M. R. Štefánik shall be administered by the Office of the President of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic.
