After the introduction of tank destroyers Jagdpanzer 38 (t) there was a need for a light rescue vehicle, which was to be used to tow damaged or otherwise immobilized vehicles. Therefore, in the summer of 1944, the company BMM began working on such a machine, which was based on the design of Hetzer. It was assumed that for each company with 14 tank destroyers, one rescue vehicle would be assigned.
The structure was not equipped with any cannon armament except the organic armament of the two-member crew and one machine gun MG 34, which could be attached to the upper edge of the armor. The body was lowered and opened. A massive crossbeam with an eye and a pin, into which a rope or a tow bar was attached, was screwed to the rear armor. Two drawbars were carried on the right side of the vehicle. The machine was equipped with a 2-ton folding crane, whose three tubular parts together with the boom were located on the left side of the machine. The crane was used to handle heavy parts of tank destroyers, such as when replacing the engine. The machine had a strong winch from the Baumgarten company from Neurupin, driven by a gear from the drive rod, placed on the site of the cannon mount. The first version had a rope outlet through the front armor, later versions had an outlet to the rear through the engine cover, where the support pulley was located. A part of the equipment for lifting the whole machine was also a jack.
In 1/1945, a bergepanzer was tested, which had a massive support spur mounted on two pins at the rear, which was lifted upwards by means of a winch rope when moved. This model piece had the serial number "322519" and at the end of the war was found in the town of Zálužany, where the decommissioned was still in 1948.
According to the plan, 170 Bergepanzer 38 (t) were to be built by the end of 1944, and from 1/1945 70 pieces per month. In order to fill the number of rescue tanks in the units, it was decided to rebuild the first pieces from the already built tank fighters. Whether such rescue vehicles were left with the original high superstructure from the tank destroyer or were modified is unknown to me. The fact is, however, that there are photographs of the Bergepanzer 38 (t), which have a high superstructure.
From 2/1945, these vehicles were to have frontal armor only 30 mm thick (originally 60 mm). This thinner armor had a model vehicle "322519" from 1/1945. This model car had two "U" profiles welded to the extended sidewalls instead of the front towing eyes. These profiles were to be introduced in 3/1945. Due to the absolute lack of photographs of the Bergepanzer 38 (t), these modifications are captured only on a model vehicle.
At the end of the war, two vehicles were to be created in the form of Flammpanzer 38 (t). The construction of the Bergepanzer 38 (t) was to be used.
In the company documentation BMM there is an interesting mention under this name about ten medium armored personnel carriers Mittlerer Schützen Panzerwagen-Jäger 38 (t), which, according to the author publishing this information, could have used the Bergepanzer 38 (t) platform.
There are known shots of a vehicle from the end of 1944, which had an experimentally mounted 12-cylinder diesel engine Tatra 103.

Factory drawings of early Bergepanzer 38(t) designs with spurs and winch rope outlet at the front of the vehicle. Note that this is a design using the original (high) superstructure from the tank fighter, not the lowered superstructure of the later production Bergepanzer 38(t). There was a design with the winch in the horizontal plane and the winch in a 20° inclined position.

Model Bergepanzer serial number 322519 from 1/1945, which was created as a template for the following serial production. Interestingly, it has 30 mm thick frontal armour, is fitted with a winch and a support plough. However, the production vehicles were not fitted with a plough. The sample vehicle was produced in 1/1945. It lived to the end of the war and was abandoned in the Czech village of Zálužice until 10/1948. Subsequently, it was used by units of the post-war Czechoslovak army, see article below.

Oporná radlica v zdvihnutej polohe. Zdvihnutie sa prevádzalo zapojením lana navijaku. Následne bola radlica uchytená dvoma sponami so závitovými svorníkmi (? laické vypozorovanie).
30 mm čelný pancier na vzorovom kuse vs. 60 mm čelný pancier sériového vozidla (skorej a možno i neskorej výroby). 30 mm pancier mal byť štandardom od 2/1945, otázne je, či sa tak stalo.

Bergepanzer 38 (t) made of a standard hull designed for a tank destroyer? Given that these are photographs from the end of the war, I assume that the production took place at the end of the production of this type of technology.

Interviews or memories of possibly the last driver Bergepanzer 38 (t) (Prague-Bergen)
A friend on Facebook provided me with a contact for Mr. Jiří Němec. He was a soldier of basic military service who (although unofficially) rode rescue vehicles of this type. At my request, he wrote me his story and sent rare photos.
Citace :
Dear Mr. Juhász. In 1957 I entered military service with the infantry regiment in Janovice nad Úhlavou near Klatovy. After basic training, I was included as a car mechanic in a transport platoon with which we had Gazika cars, Tatra 111, Praga V3S a Tatra 805. Next to us had garages, drivers and mechanics who were in charge of self-propelled guns SD-75 (tank destroyers). Or in war Pz-t 38 (Hetzer). I befriended them, I went to teach them what to do before they go out into the field, and when we were already in the field, my friends let me drive this machine several times. I was also present during the filming of the film " At that time at Christmas", which was filmed in a military area in Šumava. Last year in military service, I was transferred to the unit "Military Area Mimoň", which was in charge of the tank shooting range, where our platoon was tasked with welding targets on rail carts pulled by rope in the entrance, tank targets learned to hit these targets with reduced ammunition. We were accommodated in the village Hvězdov, where there was also a PTP unit, which also had a smaller fleet and in it on the edge were two completely complete rescuers on the chassis SD-75, but canceled and permanently withdrawn from military service. After the shifts, we had plenty of time, and one of our comrades-in-arms, who learned that I was a mechanic in automotive engines, came to me and took a few friends with me to convince me how good it is to have some fun at least in free time. monotonous military life. It was a matter of finding out if at least one rescuer could be used at all and then in his free time he would ride in the area and make tramp trips around a large military area. I promised to look into it, it would not be a problem, I had the necessary knowledge. In the spring of 1959, in my personal time off, I inspected both rescuers several times, and I chose one that seemed to be in better technical condition for riding. However, this was not easy, the vehicle did not have batteries and also gasoline. The soldiers, my friends, promised me that they would get the necessary things and until then I would prepare the engine for running. I cleaned the manifold, carburetor, gasoline filter, checked all the oils, etc. and waited for the promised things needed to start the engine. They brought me petrol in several 20-liter canisters, but they haven't gotten a battery yet. It took a long time (I don't remember now, but I have the impression that two 12 V -150 Ah batteries were needed) before they brought me one battery, which was half discharged, and finally removed one battery from Tatry 805. The batteries did not tighten the starter, so we had one more option, our Pz.vypr. have it stretched by truck Praga V3S, which also happened. I unscrewed the petrol hose from the tank, which was then inserted into a 20-liter canister, which my friend from the platoon had to keep from the hose. After a short stretch in the car park, the engine started and all onlookers were cheerful. When driving in the car park, a large support spoon prevented us, so I dismantled it so that it would not interfere with anyone. That was Saturday. We scheduled the main ride for Sunday, when all the officers were out of service. After Sunday breakfast, our group and a crowd of spectators from the PTP department came to our already popular machine Pz.vypr. and after stretching and disconnecting the rope, we set off on a test drive to the area of the tank shooting range and a small area. These excursions took place only on Sundays and public holidays for those who brought with them twenty gasolines. During one Sunday ride, I commute to the station where the soldiers who have already ridden sportily from Pz.Vypr. they jumped up and the new candidates climbed up to us, I noticed that one soldier is in civilian clothes, he was not a civilian but our commander npor. Drasar, who came for a check-up, into the field, which we are dealing with on Sunday. I assumed that our entertainment would be a nice mess and that punishments would be given for unauthorized and secret activities. Bohudík, nothing happened, our commander had an understanding for our Sunday fun and he had no appetite for the soldiers from the PTP unit from where they brought me petrol. Riding was a bit limited, but the conflict still happened once, and it was my fault. During the last ride, I did not drive on the route, but I drove elsewhere, then to Mimona, where there was a wetland, which I would certainly not drive. I was forced to take the paved road, which was back to Hvězdov. However, I did not notice that the asphalt was so soft in the spring heat that in some places it started to stick to metal strips and thus damaged the road surface. My fellow passengers noticed and started screaming until I got scared and stopped. I looked at the road behind Pz. and I knew what awaited me. I got off the road back into the field. I drove to the car park and I was very sad about it. I inspected the belts and wheels, all covered with asphalt, and the idea that I should clean everything and repair the road, so I thought I would have to stay in the war for a year longer. After investigating the whole event, I received 10 days of simple detention and a return to my unit, which was the worst punishment for me. In other words, everything turned out quite well for me. So that's all I remembered and I'm very happy to remember those old days. I also like to remember fighters together, friends from Slovakia, Szentandráši, Richard Filip and many others. Our regiment was also named after Pavel Orzság Hviezdoslav. I greet you and wish you much success in your work. Němec Jiří.

After an initial examination, it is more than likely that the photographs show a model vehicle of serial number "322519", which was manufactured in 1/1945. This vehicle is the only one I know with a square hatch (?) On the front armor under the driver's window, and the vehicle in the photo has this detail. The vehicle is a later production with a front armor only 30 mm thick and instead of front towing eyes formed by the extension of the side armor has welded "U" profiles. However, the vehicle, the winch and the support blade are already missing. The vehicle has an older muffler. As Mr. Němec mentions, he removed the blade himself when repairing the vehicle. In other photos of the vehicle that Mr. Němec sent me to see that the tensioning wheel on the left side is not original. There was another type on the model war vehicle.
