The Somua MCL 5 vehicles were designed in the first half of the 1930s as an unarmoured artillery tractor, they were half-track vehicles with a construction derived from the patents of Ing. Kegrés, according to which a number of vehicles were constructed at that time. Along with the MCL type, a smaller MCG was also produced. After the capitulation of France, the machines were taken over by the Wehrmacht and used quite extensively. Their designation was Zgkw. S303 (f) - ie Zugkraftwagen (tractor) S (as Somua) 303 (code number) f then indicated that the weapon was captured in France.
TTD
length: 5200 mm
width: 2300 mm
height: 2900 mm
weight: 6 t
engine: four-cylinder SOMUA with an output of 80 horsepower, volume 6232 cm3 and with OHV distribution
transmission: five-speed (driven only by the drive wheels of the belt section, the drive wheels are located at the front)
brakes: mechanical only on drive wheels (front wheels unbraked)
winch: 2.5 tons thrust
The machine also had an air installation for braking towed cannons (MCL's own half-belt brakes were mechanical) of the Westinghaus type.
Some TTDs differ from those inserted by Kubator, probably in his case a later armored version (the machines were later armored and used as infantry vehicles as well as armament carriers). Unfortunately, I did not manage to open the page that Kubator mentioned, so it is only a guess on my part.

For the needs of tank units, a new heavy semi-tractor Somua M 22 CL 5 was developed in 1934 (the initial type designations were CG, CG5, CL 5). The prototype was introduced in 9/1934. The platform used the well-known and proven Kégresse half-track design, the engine was of the Somua M 22 type (4-cylinder displacement 6.232 cm3, bore 115x150, power 80 hp/2000 rpm, later 85 hp). However, by reboring to 118x150, Somua achieved a higher output of up to 90 hp. This engine received the designation Somua M 23, the vehicle in turn Somua M 23 CLA 5. This designation was hardly used, the designation MCL 5 was used.
The MCL 5 tractors came in two versions, for artillery units as a tractor and for tank repair units.

The tank repair version also came in two versions:
MCL 5 - the older version - high platform, no canvas on the hull, the vehicle had a folding 1.5 ton crane, a demountable "goat" 4 meters long with a capacity of 2 tons lifted by a winch with a pull of 5 tons, later 7.5 tons.
MCL 5 - a later version - the equipment was the same as the previous type, but it had a canvas sheet to cover the hull.
