Note:
popsáno v historii letounu While performance was excellent, the aircraft proving superior to both the Bf 109K and Bf 109G and Fw 190A, outmanoeuvring all types in testing, production was not allowed by the German authorities.

Fiat G.56

History:
The Fiat G.56 was the fastest Italian fighter aircraft of World War II. The new aircraft was built on the basis of Fiat G.55, whose fuselage was extended and strengthened into such a modified fuselage was built powerful engine Daimler-Benz 603A .
The first prototype took off March 28, 1944, serial MM-536. He was intensively tested in training fights with Me-109K-4 a FW-190A-7, according to Italian sources it was allegedly better of both German aircraft. On April 25, 1944, a large raid on the Fiat factory took place, and since then the fate of this prototype can be more or less guessed. One part of the sources states that G.56 did not take off anymore because it was damaged, perhaps even destroyed, and the other part states that it survived the raid without damage, perhaps it was repaired after the raid and survived the war. However, another prototype was created and it is said that the tests continued with it.
The Germans banned all tests in the autumn of 1944, and then perhaps a prototype of the Fiat G.56 was taken to Germany.

According to most sources, the first prototype was indeed damaged in an air raid on 25.5.1944, tests continued with the second prototype (serial number MM 537) and the machine was later used by FIAT as an engine test bed. Performance varies quite a bit and less enthusiastic sources (usually the newer ones) tend to state that the G 56 was the equal of the German machines. Improvement was expected after the addition of the VDM bladed propeller, but this does not seem to have happened. development was terminated on German orders (along with production of the G 55 ) in the autumn of 1944. the material ready for production (aluminium plates etc) was shipped to Germany. The fate of the prototype is unknown, but elements of it appear in the post-war G 59 machines built for Egypt. In the G 56, the Breda-SAFAT 12.7 mm fuselage machine guns were removed to preserve the centering after the heavier engine was stopped. The prototypes were flown by FIAT test pilot Valentino Cus, who noted a deterioration in agility compared to the G 55, in addition to an increase in performance.

I will also add two photos where you can see a bit better how the aircraft looks like (one is just a better version of the one that has already been inserted)
