Armament: 4x533 T, 14 torpedoes and missiles The French

Navy operates 8 nuclear fighter submarines, of which 6 class Rubis and 2 class Amethyste. Amethyste class units:
S605 Amethyste (1992), S606 Beads (1993)

From these submarines, which are very closely related, a derivative with a conventional Turquoise propulsion was developed and offered for export. It can also be equipped with an AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) propulsion unit, which significantly extends the submarine's reach below the surface and its endurance. Amethyste class elements were also used on Scorpenne submarines (also for export).
The Rubis / Amethyste classes are designed to perform both anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-ship (ASuW) tasks, including convoy escorts.

Class description:

The class Rubis and Amethyste, the smallest nuclear fighter submarines in the rank and file in the world, (although mostly listed together) differ mainly in the shape of the hull. Submarines tr. Rubis have "flatter" hulls with ancestors similar to submarines type 209 of German origin. Amethyste already has a perfect hydrodynamic shape (Albacore bow) similar to, for example, submarines tr. Los Angeles or Russian Kilo and others for maximum reduction of noise and sonar reflection. The hull is made of special deep-strength steel with high strength, which allows immersion to a depth of up to 300 m. At this depth it can remain for any length of time (limited only by the need to replenish supplies) and thanks to highly flexible materials is not limited number of dives and emergences (at least and tr. Amethyste). Hull installations are characterized by advanced soundproofing technologies, equipment is installed on flexible platforms, vibrating ties to the fuselage shell are consistently interrupted, suspended platforms are used, etc. The traditionally high level is achieved in terms of safety and durability. The systems are backed up, not only the operation of the equipment is thoroughly monitored, but also all risk factors such as the presence of gases, liquids, leaks or fire. Thanks to the advantageous shaping of the hull together with consistent soundproofing and a quality propeller, submarines tr. Amethyste is characterized by high efficiency and difficult detectability. leaks or fire. The ship's combat system is based on the DLA 3 weapon system and the SAT tactical system, which processes sensor data, including the ECM, provides search and tracking of targets and guidance of weapons. The submarines use low-frequency multifunctional DMUX 20 sonar and passive towar array DSUV 62C operating at very low frequencies. There is also a navigation radar type 1007 (Hughes) on board. The submarines also have a system DR 3000U (fr. Navy also referred to as ARUR-13) with omnidirectional and monopulse directional antennas and an antenna on the periscope. The DR 3000U allows you to target enemy radar transmissions with an accuracy of less than 1°. Older Rubis ships were equipped with DSUV 62, DSUV 22, DUUA 2B DUUX 5 sonar.
The armament of the ships consists of torpedoes and / or guided missiles fired from 4 533 mm torpedo launchers. The number of torpedoes / missiles carried is 14. The torpedoes are of the ECLAN L5 type with a speed of 35 kn, 150 kg warhead, range 9.5 km at a maximum operating depth of 550 m, with active / passive sonar guidance and / or ECLAN F17 mod 2 with guidance via cable with active / passive end self-guidance, with a range of 20 km at a maximum speed of 40 kn with a 250 kg head. In addition, the armament can include MBDA SM-39 Exocet guided missiles with radar active end self-loading resistant to interference, a range of 50 km and an extremely effective warhead weighing 165 kg. Exocet allows firing a volley, while the missiles can be aimed at the same target from different directions, in the final phase of the flight can also maneuver to reduce the likelihood of hit by anti-missile means. When firing from below the surface, the case with Exocet ascends to a height of only 50 m above the surface, where a solid-fuel rocket engine is started and the missile continues low flight at sea level to the target (so-called sea skimming flight profile). For comparison, a similar Sub-Harpoon missile will rise to a height of up to 600 m, which of course can unmask the position of the ship.

The ship's propulsion system is based on a 48 MW CAS 48 pressurized water reactor with an extremely compact installation. Power is supplied by two turbo alternators, the drive is provided by an electric motor with an output of 9500 hp. The backup drive unit is a Jeumont Schneider 8 PA4 V 185 SM of 270 hp.

In januári 2020 sa started renovácia submarine Perle in lodeniciach in prístave Toulon. The day 12.06.2020 morning vypukol aboard renovovanej submarine požiar, ktorý viac ako 14 hours hasilo 100 hasičov and špeciálne the hearthstone section. Požiar sa managed to uhasiť to polnoci (Saturday 13.06.2020). Under any idea as to the ministry of defense no one was injured. Range škôd (and I mean the possibility of ďalšieho používania subs) I wasn't spresneý.
Submarine bola during the repair without weapons and nukleárneho fuel, osadenstvo sub bolo immediately after the outbreak of the požiaru evacuated.
