PRP-4

Artillery reconnaissance vehicle

This artillery reconnaissance vehicle, which is a replacement for the PRP-3, is used to locate enemy artillery/mortars and to fire and repair the effective fire of its own 122 mm and 152 mm caliber artillery barrels. The front of the vehicle is identical to the BMP-1, but the vehicle has a new two-man gunner's turret that has two individual forward-facing openings. Both openings have periscopes for observation and a large optical device. Armament consists of a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, which replaced the 73 mm gun. On the right side of the gun turret is a covered compartment for the optical equipment. On top of the turret is a 1RL133 [NATO code: TALL MIKE] flat-panel radar, which replaces the NATO code SMALL FRED vehicle-mounted PRP-3 surveillance radar. The 1RL133 radar, which is also mounted on vehicles BRM-1K and 1V119, has an identification range of 7 km for vehicles and 2 km for people.

PRP-4 vehicles were also in the armament of the Soviet Coastal Defence and Marine Corps. The Coast Guard and Marine Infantry Black Sea Fleet had a total of 13 PRP-4 vehicles after the collapse of the USSR, which were divided between the Russian Federation (Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation) and the Republic of Ukraine (the Military Navy) in a 6 to 7 ratio.

Diskuse

TALL MIKE was a NATO designation,Soviet marking was only 1RL133,respectively PSNR-5,no need to confuse and mix together Soviet name and NATO code marking, then there is unnecessary confusion.
So: (product)1RL133 = PSNR-5(nato marking Tall mike)
