MANTIS (NBS-C-RAM) - prostriedok designed to ničenie delostreleckých rakiet, pomegranate r and less. His primárna role is the defense of the stacionárnych zaradení (of that role emerges if aj his konštrukcia kontajnerového type) ako su veliteľské stanovištia, barrack-room objects, letiská and ďalšie point objects. The system allows you to automatically detekovať prilietajúce projectiles, vyslať varovanie záujmovému object (about 20-30 seconds before dopadom projektilov) and subsequently the individual projectiles (rockets) postreľovať using časovanej munície AHEAD.

The Bundeswehr is to hand over two MANTIS air defence systems to Slovakia to "permanently reinforce air defence". Training of Slovaks on the weapon system will begin in Germany in the coming months. This follows from the daily order of the Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius and the Inspector General of the Federal Armed Forces, General Eberhard Zorn, dated 06.02.2023.

With the handover of these two systems, Germany relinquishes all MANTIS systems that have been introduced into the Bundeswehr. The Tagesschau newspaper reported last December that Germany wants to support Slovakia with anti-aircraft systems. According to the report at the time, the MANTIS systems were to be located in the east of the country, on the border with Ukraine. There is also a repair centre where, among other things, howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000 supplied by Germany and the Netherlands to the Ukrainian armed forces are repaired.

The MANTIS weapon system is a stationary and short-range air defence system. It can fight so-called RAM targets (rockets, artillery and mortars), but also drones and cruise missiles to protect installations or objects. The MANTIS system consists of two sensor units with a search radar, a tracking radar, a TV camera, an infrared camera and a laser sight, as well as an operations and firing centre and eight turrets. The turret carries a 35 mm revolver gun capable of firing at a theoretical rate of 1,000 rounds per minute. The ammunition fired is advanced AHEAD ammunition, which is programmed to explode several meters from the target when the barrel leaves the gun, destroying it with a cloud of fragments. MANTIS is manufactured by the Rheinmetall arms company.

The Bundeswehr's two MANTIS systems are currently deployed in Anti-Aircraft Missile Group 61 (Flugabwehrraketengruppe 61). Four soldiers are required to operate the system.

By disposing of the MANTIS systems, the Bundeswehr is giving up another part of its ability to defend itself against threats from the air. It is true that the current plans of the German Armed Forces envisage future means to combat close-in and close-air targets under the NNbS (Nah- und Nächstbereichsschutz) program. However, it will probably be years before these new systems reach the troops.

Oba komplety MANTIS boli k októbru 2023 presunuté na Slovensko a po realizácii administratívnych a technických opatrení v súvislosti s ich prevzatím by mali byť do výzbroje OS SR zaradené do konca októbra 2023.
