This howitzer is sometimes referred to as the Model 56 light dismounted howitzer. The howitzer can be disassembled into 12 parts or transported in its entirety in a sling under helicopters. The cannon was built in the 1950s and was designed for the American M1 ammunition. The chassis arrangement allows the entire upper receiver to be raised in height so that when firing at high angles of aim, the breech of the sliding barrel does not hit the ground.
