Office of naval developments (Office of Naval Research) reported that the development of electromagnetic guns has advanced to the next stage. The rail gun leaves the laboratory and moves into the dahlgrenské branch of the Centre of maritime water level combat (Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division). Gradually increase the energy, the cadence and the size of the volleys. By the end of summer should reach 20 megajoule and in the following year the 32 megajoule. One megajoule is the equivalent of a ton object moving at the speed of 160 miles per hour. Projectiles from the cannon should fly at a distance greater than 100 nautical miles and at speeds of Mach 6. Projectiles should rely mainly on kinetic energy. The result should be a marked reduction in the size of explosives on board ships. The developers are also working on increasing the life of the main to tactically meaningful level. The improvements are also other components of the guns, especially the part that ensures enough power.
