Lt Col Gustav Lundquist at Spitfire Mk IX Mk.210 at Blue West 8, Greenland. At this airfield he had to wait for a delayed Spitfire that was to accompany him on a flight to England. The overflight was made from the USA for the purpose of demonstrating the range of this modification.
In Greenland, mechanic Sergeant Petty took advantage of the time and, in addition to maintaining the machine, decorated its nose with this ticklish drawing. From the expression of the lady and the word "Hello", it is clear that the lady as a wake-up call to the RAF to wake them up in relation to the range of the Spitfire. The "nose art" is pretty hilarious if Lundquist hadn't had the name Tolly on the nose of the plane, which was his wife Mary Taliaferro "Tolly" Parrish's nickname. That's also probably why Lundquist doesn't have the most cheerful expression on his face. Smile
