Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that the military presence in Ankara and Istanbul is strange. He described the action as an uprising by part of the military.

On Friday evening, part of the Turkish army attempted to overthrow the government and declared a state of emergency in the country. In Ankara and Istanbul, putschists with armoured vehicles and tanks tried to seize strategic points.
Army rebels said in a statement read out on NTV television at around 11pm on Friday that "power in the country has been completely taken over″. The coup, according to the announcement, was carried out because of the autocratic nature of the government and the threat of terrorism and "to ensure and restore constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms and to ensure the rule of law in the country to restore the order that has been disrupted″.
Britain's Sky News television reported after 1am that a Turkish air force F-16 fighter jet shot down an army putschist helicopter over the capital Ankara. According to CNN Turkish television, members of the police and rebel army also fought each other in Ankara.
After several hours of chaos, when it was unclear exactly what was happening in the country, MIT intelligence announced that a coup had been averted.
The state-run Anadolu news agency quoted an unnamed military source as saying that the leader of the coup attempt was Colonel Muharrem Kose. He headed the army's legal department but was dismissed from his post some time ago.


Turkey's president landed in Istanbul on Saturday morning following Friday's failed coup by part of the army. He described the coup attempt as treason and threatened the rebels that the price they would pay would be "high″. Army putschists fought with soldiers and police loyal to the government in Ankara and Istanbul overnight. Civilians were also dying. The exact number of casualties is unknown, with over 60 people killed in Ankara alone.


A total of 745 members of the military have been arrested in connection with the coup attempt, the Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday morning. Arrests of mutinous soldiers have taken place across Turkey.


But the faction of the Turkish army that attempted to stage a coup in the country said in an emailed statement that it was continuing to fight resolutely. It urged citizens not to leave their homes

After a failed attempt of a coup d'état continues in Turkey the arrests in the ranks of the judiciary and the army. In custody for over 52 other military officers and 53 judges and prosecutors, the arrest warrant was issued. Detained together was reportedly up to 6 thousand people. Saturday was withdrawn from the post 2745 of judges and prosecutors.
President Erdogan vowed to destroy the "parallel structure" in the ranks of the Turkish judiciary, education, the media and the military.

Na istanbulském letišti jsou prý tanky a obrněná vozidla.

Armáda (nebo její část) prohlásila, že přebírá správu země a vyhlásila zákaz vycházení. Náčelník štábu je prý v tuto chvíli držet v budově štábu jako rukojmí. Budova státní televize obsazena. Budova AKP obklíčena.

Tohle je ještě pořád členský stát NATO a kandidát na vstup do EU?
