Pz.Kpfw.-Turm III

Pz.Kpfw.-Turm III (Bauform 245)
Unneeded turrets from medium tanks Pz.Kpfw.III were to be used as permanent firing posts. Only turrets with the 5 cm Kw.K gun were to be used. L/42 and 7.5 cm Kw.K. L/24. The armament was to be supplemented by a MG 34 co-axial machine gun. The ammunition supply was 216 rounds for the version with the 7.5 cm gun. The turret armour was 50 mm thick at the front, the gun shield was 50 mm, the sides and rear were 30 mm and the ceiling was 12 mm. In 2/1944, 10 turrets were delivered for modification. In total, 100 turrets were to be modified according to the plans. However, only a prototype with a 5 cm L/42 gun and one prototype with a 7.5 cm L/24 gun were actually produced and mounted on test bunkers at Hillersleben.
The bunker created for the lafetation of this turret bore the designation Bauform 245.
In addition to this project, there was also a project to mount the turrets on wooden bases (Pz.Kpfw.-Turm III auf Holzsockel).
