In this cemetery lie the men of two Lancaster aircraft, namely :

Avro Lancaster Mk. I PA165 QR-V of 61st RAF Squadron, which took off at 00:25 from Skellingthorpe Base with the aim of bombing German supply routes in the Ardennes (Houffalize was full of German soldiers and combat equipment at the time, and was essentially flattened during two raids on 30/31 December 1944 and 5/6 January 1945). The raid was carried out by 5th RAF Group and involved 131 Lancaster and 9 Mosquito aircraft. Only these two machines were lost in the raid.

Only W/O N. McKay survived and was captured (he was wounded and lived to see his release in hospital), the rest of the pilots were killed. All 6 victims of the crash were first buried next to the wreckage of the aircraft, four of them (F/O J. E. Sears, F/Sgt M. W. Stobart, F/O R. B. Anderson and F/Sgt G. Malcolm) were then moved to the Houffalize City Cemetery, the remaining two (Sgt R.W. B. Baldwin and Sgt L. A. Williams) were moved to the US Military Cemetery at Foy and then to Hotton War Cemetery.

The second Avro Lancaster Mk. III NE168 EM-F of 207 Squadron RAF took off at 00:52 from Spilsby Base, also targeting supply routes in the Ardennes. The aircraft apparently exploded in mid-air over Houffalize. The only survivor of this crew was Sgt K.A.W. Ottewell, who also lived to see his release in hospital. The remaining airmen are buried here:
F/O M.L. Perez (RAAF), Sgt E. Deller, Sgt G.E. Patterson, F/Sgt W.L. Cleary, Sgt A.J. Kennedy and Sgt J.G. Shepherd.
